Volunteer
Opportunities
As
a non-profit organization, the hospice relies on volunteers to play
key roles from planning to service delivery. The following Volunteer
opportunities are available.
1. Client
Support How
to apply as a volunteer
Through
our in-home volunteer program, volunteers directly care for individuals
living with a life-threatening illness while also supporting their
families, friends and caregivers through the illness, death and
bereavement. There are three different types of opportunities for
individuals wishing to volunteer with our clients and/or their families:
Visiting
Volunteers enhance the comfort, dignity and quality of
life of clients through practical assistance, physical care, and
emotional and spiritual support.
Complementary
Therapy Volunteers bring special skills to the hospice
and are able to provide relaxation and support through various healing
modalities (i.e. Reiki, Massage) to clients and their caregivers.
Bereavement
Volunteers receive additional training in grief and bereavement
in order to support families following the death of a loved one.
This support may be offered over the telephone or in person.
2. Administrative
Support
Not
all people wish to work with the dying but still want to support
the work of Hospice. The following positions describe the indirect
support that allows our organization to operate more efficiently
and effectively.
Board
of Directors offer personal skills, influence and resources
to contribute to the growth and development of the hospice. Directors
set policies, assure adequate finances and ensure the development
of a strategic plan outlining the long-term future of the hospice.
- Our Board of Directors
Office
Volunteers work in our office assisting the staff by answering
the telephone, greeting visitors, assembling information packages,
preparing mailings and other office work.
Special
Event Volunteers help organize and implement community
awareness and fundraising events such as the Hike for Hospice and
display booths at malls or other public locations.
Communications
Volunteers assist staff to communicate with the hospice’s
various stakeholders. With direction and input from staff, the volunteer
will research and write articles for the hospice newsletter, volunteer
updates, and website.
3. Students/Interns
The
hospice is able to provide internships or placements for various
post-secondary programs. Please contact
us for more information.
